The moment I realised I am my parents’ retirement plan, I started wondering what could have went wrong. Due to the lack of financial literacy and savings habits, my parents did not manage to save sufficiently to prepare for old age. This kept me wondering – what if they had someone guiding them in the right foot when they were younger.
I came into the industry wanting to make me and my family’s lives better, and I stayed because I realised the impact I was making for my clients. When they thanked me after making successful hospital claims in tens of thousands, kickstarting their first ever investment because they simply don’t know how. The fact that I know I am indispensable to my close friends and clients lives kept me going regardless of how tough the journey is.
In time to come, I wish that when people think of consultants, it’s full of praises and respect. And I believe our profession will be there one day.
